History
The Chiasson’s story is intertwined with the history of Acadie. Originally from Chéticamp, the first family members settled in the Rogersville area in 1885. They then took on the enormous task of clearing the land and began sustenance farming. In the beginning the farm mainly specialized in beef, pork, milk, Brussels sprouts and mixed vegetable production. An interesting fact is that the Rogersville region was once hailed as Canada’s largest vegetable producing region.
The farm eventually began focusing on pork, cattle, poultry and grain production. In 2011, Rebeka began farming with her father and since then, she has devoted herself to organic fruit and vegetable production. Rebeka and Jean-Eudes keep their ancestor’s and original farm owner’s dream alive: to contribute to the vitality of the land while producing tasty and high quality foods for consumers.
Philosophy
Farming is a concrete way for Rebeka and Jean-Eudes to invest in our region’s food sovereignty. They envision their farm both as a space to produce great food as well as a community resource for intergenerational learning and sharing. Shifting towards organic production is the best way for them to maximize the benefits the land, the animals and the people around them while offering products that they are proud to eat at the family table.
Description
The farm is established on 225 acres, more than half of which is used for grain crops for livestock feed, while 4 to 5 acres are allotted for organic vegetable and fruit production. Rebeka and Jean Eudes have each their respective fields of interests; Rebeka takes care of fruit and vegetable production while Jean-Eudes manages the pig and cattle side of the operation.
